Not Just for Artists

The Arts Ministry is designed to encourage not only artists but also those simply interested in the arts to discover God’s creative image through the variety of artistic media He has given us. By sponsoring various activities and events, the Arts Ministry seeks to cultivate in those both inside and outside of the church an increased comprehension of the arts as an expression of God’s transcendent grace and beauty.

In keeping with our mission, Genema Gallery, located in the Christ Church foyer, displays quarterly exhibits of local artists’ works. From photography, to oils, to watercolors, to mixed media, and focusing on a variety of topics, these exhibits have become a mainstay of the Arts Ministry, both to the artist and to those who come through our doors.

Each year, the Arts Ministry also sponsors a juried exhibition of paintings, photographs and other media centered upon a chosen theme. The exhibition hangs during the summer months and incorporates a topic covered by the summer sermon series at Christ Church. In the Summer of 2001, the art exhibition and sermon series were centered on the theme of Paradox. Local gallery owners and partners at Atlanta’s High Museum are involved in the final selection of pieces submitted by artists from both the surrounding community and other states.

Other activities include occasional gallery walks and special exhibits, and we have also been known to delve into a book study on a relevant topic.

Ephesians: Encouragement And Joy In Christ

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Ephesians is a letter to a church very like yours. Paul is obviously commended that this young church gets its foundations right. It is intriguing that later, when writing to Timothy, he says that there are some there promoting ‘false doctrines’. The leadership was in revolt! Yet in the Revelation given to John, Jesus commends the Ephesian church that they have thrown out the false teachers and are a congregation who have staying power despite their setbacks. So a church that had been through the mill but back out the other side! What was their secret? You will find out as you explore this letter to the church.

Revelation: The Compassion and Protection of Christ

It is ironical that a book called ‘the revelation’ remains probably the most obscure of all the books of the Bible. Many Christians have never ventured further than the first 3 chapters and others have studied its intricacies and the split churches that resulted wish they hadnt! For those who already love the book of Revelation this commentary will take you a little deeper and stimulate thinking about how the teaching should be applied to the modern church.

About ChristChurch

Our Joy

It is our joy to reach out in the power and fellowship of God’s Spirit, with the love of God and the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, to our community, to Atlanta and then to the world.

Our Desire

It is our greatest desire to introduce people to the Lord Jesus Christ and then to the Christian faith and to the family of the church. We also want to equip men, women, and children to serve the Lord Jesus Christ and reflect his light in every area of their lives.

Our Congregation

ChristChurch Presbyterian was planted in 1993. Families and singles are found in approximately equal numbers. An intriguing mix that includes artists, teachers, plumbers, homemakers, lawyers, painters, students, builders, accountants, musicians, business men and women and others make up our changing and growing congregation. It is exciting to discover how God is shaping us all and using us all as he continues to bring people with unique gifts, talents, and needs through our doors.
